Perspectives

In a book I recently read, the writer was talking about how our circumstances don't define us - but the way we react to them that shapes our character. I found this extraordinary.

There's been many a time in my life when I was mopey, angry, pessimistic, and whiny; I'm not happy about how the way I've portrayed myself to the world, based on that. However, since having read that, I'm making a conscious effort to remember that it's how I react that matters.

For instance, I have some crazy road rage. I get annoyed at the drop of a hat when driving. People just bug me and I can't stand tailgators - up to a point where I will actually slam on my brakes to get them to stop (effective, I know :( !) Honestly, after taking some time to think about all the things I get upset about, I'm surprised about how many of the things are so pointless. If I only invested this time into things that matter instead spending it on these silly things, I could accomplish amazing things! I think that is what God is trying to teach me with this. This life is just too short to waste on 'fleeting' things. I want to focus my eyes on the eternal and, by changing my attitude and perspective, I think it's a great start.
